Products Research Laboratory (FPRL) was founded by Dennis Morgan
in response to the decision by the CCA suppliers to voluntarily
withdraw their CCA Consumer Uses registration. He is a chemical
engineer by education and training. For approximately 25 years,
Dennis was involved in the development and marketing of fire-retardants
and agricultural pesticides. All these past experiences taught him
to greatly value the integrity and needs of those in the treating
industry while remaining loyal to his customer-first philosophy
of "treating you right."
As CCA was voluntarily removed from the treating
industry, FPRL did not view ACQ and CA-B as cost effective replacements.
It was quite concerned about the issues of cost, mold, corrosion
and leaching with these substitute treating solutions. FPRL knew
that problems would be created with an amine chemistry and the utilization
of copper in the absence of chrome.
After researching and evaluating a number of possible alternative
chemistries at the FPRL state-of-the-art research laboratory and
testing facility in Springfield, Oregon, it finally identified a
chemistry that was a meaningful replacement for CCA. The chemistry
is cost effective, environmentally acceptable, has corrosion inhibition,
and is time proven, with a history of safety, efficacy, and customer
appeal. That chemistry is
